Vocational Discernment
A holy space to explore calling and work in Christ

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
Frederick Büchner
What is Vocational Discernment?
Vocation comes from the Latin vocare, “to call,” and refers to the work a person is called to by God.
In vocational discernment, we seek to discern the work to which God is calling us. God has gifted each of us in unique and specific ways. He places desires within us that meaningful work fulfills. Vocational discernment is a process of discovering how our unique gifts and strengths can be of benefit to the world and God’s kingdom.
Certain tools can be helpful in the process. Tools such as the Gallup StrengthsFinder test, Myers-Briggs personality test, and The Way of Discernment by Elizabeth Liebert can be supportive as you seek to discern where and to what God may be calling you. More than anything, a spiritual discernment companion can help you sift through insights and hold them before God, along with your personal desires and the activities that bring you joy, in prayerful listening for understanding. Meeting with a spiritual director for vocational discernment can be a clarifying part of the process.
If you desire support on your vocational discernment journey, we are here to help. Simply request and initial consultation and one of us will come alongside you for the process.
“Use me, God. Show me how to take who I am, who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it for a purpose greater than myself.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
